Lately I’ve been exploring different ways to decrease the anxiety in my head. I color, I kayak, I do puzzles and I even tried baking. Although beneficial, I found them more of a distraction than a solution. Meditation seems to be a popular response when I talk about it with close friends, but I never give it a fair consideration. I usually wonder how I’ll ever find the time or patience to sit in silence for a long period of time and not become insanely bored!
As I grow older, I realize the importance of making time for what’s important and my mental health is definitely a priority. In an attempt to enlighten myself on the mind, body, and soul, I attended a wellness event in Boston last month. The event was hosted by the fabulous Lisa Jean-Francois and Co-founders of Vega Vitality Stephanie Moore and Ashley Hilmes. Stephanie and Ashley welcomed us to Vega Vitality, their new Co-Op wellness space in Boston, where they encourage clients to “choose to shine!” Accompanied by tasty treats and champaign, we had the pleasure of meeting the wellness team who offers a variety of services to ensure you always feel your best. Included on the team is Hallie Dumont, a yoga and reiki instructor.
When I met with Hallie, she was very relaxed in her approach and I wanted to learn how she achieves such a calm demeanor. Hallie explained her ability to enhance positive energy flow through the body using a non-invasive technique called Reiki. Through light touch and body movement, Hallie is able to channel energy through the body to activate restorative properties that help maintain a positive mind and body. You’re probably rolling your eyes in disbelief, but even Hallie was honest in saying clients often express how crazy it initially sounds. This wasn’t the first time I heard about the healing powers of Reiki, but this is definitely the first time I considered it. Hallie is clearly an expert in her practice and I am excited to make my first appointment!
This event aligned perfectly with my recent interest in mediation and I couldn’t be more excited! Meeting Hallie was exactly what I needed to get pumped about this journey. Yep, that’s right, I’m about to embark on a spiritual adventure that will explore different techniques used to live a more zen life. This journey will include many of firsts, but also some everyday routines that need improvement. The first that comes to mind is sleep; I need to be better about turning off the TV and avoiding my phone before bed!
My wellness journey will be documented on the blog and I’m excited to share what I loved, what I hated, what worked, what was weird and what I’ll never do again! As I begin this journey, I ask you to share any practices you swear by to refresh the mind, body, and soul. I’ll do my best to give them a try and share my experience!
